External Floating Roof (EFR) IPR
BPM Projects was engaged to undertake an independent review of the external floating roof (EFR) on a storage tank. The assessment considered the safety and operability of the EFR, its buoyancy performance, and compliance with API 650 and API 653 requirements.
The purpose of the review was to provide an independent technical basis for the Client to evaluate the continued safe operation of the tank under existing operating conditions and controls, and to inform decisions regarding any additional measures required to support ongoing safe operation of the EFR.
Our detailed engineering analysis included:
Technical review of information provided by our Client (drawings, survey reports, drawings and calculations, inspection checklists)
Site visit over 2 days to observe and assess tank roof and interview stakeholders.
Buoyancy modelling and assessment on the roof subcontracted through third-party consultant.
Assessment of EFR compliance to current API650 buoyancy and stability requirements.
Review of 1 in 500-year rainfall and confirmation of EFR’s design limits.
Preparation and presentation of a report outlining key findings.
Outcome
BPM Projects summarized key findings surrounding technical compliance, risk, maximum rainfall modelling, design life of the EFR base and operational life of the EFR.
This information enabled the Client to undertake an informed risk assessment and support decision-making regarding the future management and operation of the EFR.
